Space for nature
This dataset is essentially a compliance and performance tracker for Ireland’s Space for Nature obligations under CAP 2023–2027. It shows: How much farmland is being diverted to biodiversity space (hedges, buffer strips, wetlands). Which counties and farms are doing more than the minimum (Enhanced) vs just meeting the baseline. Metadata description Scheme Year (int)- The year of the CAP scheme cycle (here, 2023). Eligible Hectares (float)- The total farmed area eligible for support. Practice Type (Binary/text)- The scheme tier (e.g. Enhanced vs Standard) – Enhanced usually means stricter/better biodiversity measures. SFN Area (float) - The actual hectares on that holding set aside as “Space for Nature” (hedgerows, field margins, ponds, wetlands, etc.). SFN Percent (float) - The share of the eligible area that is Space for Nature, expressed as a %. Obligation Area (float) - The area that must be provided as SFN to meet the scheme’s compliance rules. Often a minimum (e.g. 4%–10% depending on scheme). County Desc (text) - The county where the farm/parcel is located.
